Reflecting on the past milestones and breakthroughs we had leads us to make more informed decisions for the future.

Often, we can feel the biggest lessons in hindsight, but not when we’re in the middle of the storm.

Take a moment to give yourself credit for all the minor and bigger challenges you’ve mastered in the past year.

Even when some things aren’t resolved yet, thank yourself for your resilience in the process.

At the beginning of the year we tend to overburden ourselves with all the habits we want to start, 100 goals to accomplish and during all of that also functioning in a fast-paced and unpredictable world.

While reading through the goals we set a year ago we feel like we didn’t accomplish anything.

Life forced us to slow down, we just didn’t have the energy or lacked a lot of inspiration.

Maybe we tried some of the things we set our intentions for but figured out that it simply doesn’t fit our lives and doesn’t feel good to us.

It’s important to note with all the goals we want to accomplish, the biggest should always be to feel good!

 

You don’t have to force everything upon yourself, and especially not all at once.

It’s a great intention to improve your life, your health, and your mindset.

We just need to keep in mind that we don’t have to do it all at once and within one year. It’s a life-long process.

What I recommend doing is choosing one theme/word for the year and setting some goals around it.

Maybe in the next year, you want to focus on feeling at peace more often.

Then one of your goals could be meditating every morning for five minutes before you leave the house, and slowly increasing the time, or having another practice before bed.

If you’re trying to get up earlier without feeling exhausted before the day even starts, then these tips are for you!

Start your day with a routine that supports your goal to leave the comfort of your bed a little earlier so that you can use that extra time to connect to yourself.

Usually, it’s easier for us to adapt to a new morning routine in the summer months. The sun is already up even when we get up at 5 am or earlier. In case you’re doing this as a challenge or experiment, I would highly recommend choosing a brighter season.  

 

Sleeping Hours

Make sure that no matter how early you wake up, you should always get enough hours of sleep.

Everybody is different and thus everyone has a different sleep cycle, but on average it’s about 7-9 hours per day.

It’s important for our bodies to have that time to rest and recharge, otherwise, we feel sluggish and easily irritable the next day.

Not really the qualities we’re looking for to have a successful day.

Have a set time you go to bed and stick to it. If you have trouble falling asleep, try to calm down already 1-2 hours before that time.

Avoid the blue light of electronics and alcoholic beverages, drink some herbal tea, read a bit, take a bath, listen to an audiobook, meditate…

 

Consistent Wake-Up Time

Set the alarm for the same time every day. Be consistent with your wake-up time even if you went to bed a little one night.

No Snooze Button

To get up at the same time every day, you should avoid the snooze button at all costs. It’s tempting, I know, but not quite consistent.

You could try to set your alarm 15 minutes before the time you actually want to get up to have a little more time getting used to the thought of leaving the bed.

I also can’t get up straight after my alarm rings. I love to take things slow in the morning, but I only do this because I know that I’m not going to fall asleep again.

If you are prone to fall asleep soon after your alarm sounds, you should probably not follow that tip but consider having your alarm clock across the room so that you have to get up.

Prepare The Night Before

The best morning routine starts the night before. When the thought of waking up early makes you feel stressed, then you shouldn’t have to worry about other stuff that could make leaving the bed even more dreadful.

Here’s a little list of the things you can prepare the night before:

  • Pack your bag
  • Refill your water cup
  • Set the table
  • Choose your outfit for the next day (look up how the weather will be)
  • If necessary, prepare your lunch and fill it in transportable containers

Take Time For Breakfast

Breakfast is oftentimes the first thing we leave aside when we’re in a rush in the morning hours.

But there’re fast and easy ways to prepare a nourishing and healthy breakfast.

For example, oats with a (plant-based) yogurt and some fruits – it takes less than five minutes to prepare that.

While eating, try to stay present and take your time. This can also be a good reason to get up 15 minutes earlier – to have a mindful breakfast without any stress and rush.

 

Have A Wake-Up Playlist

Fill this playlist with all the songs that put you in a good mood.

Listen to it while getting ready, bonus points if you dance to it.

Move Your Body

There’s no better way to wake up the mind than moving your body.

After a few minutes of exercise or slow yoga, your mind will feel refreshed and open for the day.

There’s less resistance to the challenges you may encounter during the day because you already accomplished getting over the resistance to work out in the morning.

You can also consider dancing to your favorite songs as a form of exercise!

It’s perfect for grounding yourself and move through your day with greater ease.

Start with focusing on your breath until there’re no thoughts anymore.

If a thought crosses your mind, just observe it and let it flow.

Five minutes each morning can make a huge impact on your overall well-being throughout the whole day.

As we all know, the energy of gratitude attracts more and more things to be grateful for.

The idea is simple. You start a journal where you write down every day (or whenever you feel like it) what you are grateful for.

Every day you write down something new and feel into it. You can write about lessons you’ve learned that day, little acts of kindness, how someone made you feel good, something that made you laugh,…

Try to find an event or thing that you can easily connect to emotionally so that you can tap into the feelings of gratitude with ease rather than force.

The more you think about what to be thankful for, the more you become aware of the blessings that are already in your life.

A gratitude list is a never-ending list with random things that make you feel in awe of life.

You can expand this list whenever you feel a hit of appreciation for life.

These can be minor things like feeling the sunlight on your skin, but also the grand things like falling in love or moving into the apartment of your dreams.

Gratitude Meditation

Meditation combined with the feelings of gratitude creates the most powerful manifesting energy.

Sit in silence, close your eyes, and calm your mind. Focus on your breathing.

After a while, when you’re in a deep meditative state, start to think about what you’re grateful for at this very moment.

Go with whatever comes to mind first. Try to hold a picture of it in your mind’s eye. See it, feel it, experience it, give thanks to it.

That way the feelings around it should expand naturally. Do this process with as many things as you like and feels good to you.

Thank all the things you exchange money for – the products and services you experience in exchange for it.

The more you are aware of where your money goes, the more you experience whether you’re actually grateful for those products and maybe make adjustments in the future.

 

Write Letters To The Universe

When you write to the Universe, you can thank it for all the blessings it has already sent your way.

While you do that, get really deep with the feelings. What in detail are you grateful for? How has it changed your life?

Let the Universe know how much you love what it has gifted to you. That way, the Universe knows exactly what you like and sends you more of that feeling.

Visualization

Find a comfortable position. Close your eyes.

Imagine a yellow light circle in your belly above your navel.

With each breath you take the circle gets bigger and bigger and the yellow light becomes clearer and brighter.

Grow the circle with your breath until your whole upper belly is filled with yellow radiant light.

Hold the circle for a couple of minutes and feel how its light is cleansing the energy in your solar plexus chakra.

All negative beliefs about yourself have washed away and you feel cleansed in that area.

The warm energy of a newfound drive for life is filling your belly and from there flows through your whole body making you feel energized.

You can also enhance this visualization technique by combining it with chanting the mantra RAM, speaking the affirmations from above, or listening to the solar plexus chakra frequency.
